Trying to interpret this posting by Tim Parks, a short history of the writing life. I think he’s suggesting that creativity and life as a ‘career writer’ (which he seems to define as a teaching artist in a writing program) are incompatible.
As a novelist who has spent her entire working life in corporate jobs, I find the topic of the blog interesting, provocative. Does this suggest that “working for the man” is maybe more inspiring of creativity than I thought? Hm.
