Celebrate Artistic Creation: Upcoming Events

Book lovers take note of these forthcoming events (pasted below) where you can share your love with a hard-working author and enjoy the fruits of her creative labors. And have great coffee and snacks at a local West St. Paul coffee shop!

In other exciting news, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine has expressed interest in another of my mystery shorts! More news ahead on this, but I gotta tell you I’m thrilled that they will publish another of my short stories. In total, I’ll have placed THREE stories with the magazine Stephen King calls the “world’s best mystery magazine”. The magazine and its stories have won many, many prizes. Two other stories, “Boys will be Boys” from the February 2013 issue and “Open Ended”  from December 2015, made the cut. It’s such an honor and such validation to appear in Ellery Queen’s pages.

As always, keep on eye on my Events tab for additional events.

More troubling, her family goes on as if she never existed. The only person in town who can actually see her is a teen boy with a troubled past and secrets he’s determined to keep.

One, Two, Three – On The Way

Click the elephant. I dare you.

Now that life has settled down a bit from the whirlwind that was college selection, graduation, open house, and extremely overwhelming work days (nights, weekends, dreams, etc.), I wanted to tell you about a few, exciting, upcoming bookish things.

Not zero, not one, not even two, but YES, THREE  stories are being published this September:

(1) “Everlasting Light,” Talking Stick 23 (Jackpine Writers Bloc, 2014) – September 2014
(2) “Gift Wrapped,” 2015 Saint Paul Almanac – September 2014
(3) “Iced,” Festival of Crime Anthology, Nodin Press – September 2014

Unknown-1Here’s the cool cover for #3.  This well-crafted anthology has great advance praise.  The collection will be launched at our famous local bookstore, Once Upon a Crime, on Thursday, September 11 at 7 P.M. It will be available where fine mysteries are sold, but I hope local folks can make it over to OUAC where I’ll be signing along with the other story authors. Foreword by the ever fabulous, Erin Hart.

#2 events are yet to be scheduled, but I will totally be there for the launch party late summer, and plan on reading at one or more of their events.

#1 will be launched in Northern Minnesota. Not sure yet whether I will make that party, but the Jackpine Writers are known for throwing a great event and crafting a wonderful collection of writing by Minnesota writers.

While you are all eagerly anticipating these stories, go ahead and click on the elephant above, and read my story that appeared in a previous Saint Paul Almanac. Another appearance in the works for the Minnesota State Fair. I’ll get my events page updated soon!

Bibliomadness: It’s Not All About Me

Every night there seems to be another author launch, another book event, another literary happening, eh, happening somewhere.

It’s bibliomadness I know, and I’m in the middle of the bookish cyclone in launching my latest novel. (See, for instance, the NEW EVENTS I just added. Tomorrow I’ll be in Edina, Saturday Duluth, next week points elsewhere)

If you love books and are in the Twin Cities, the grandmother of all fall book events is the Twin Cities Book Festival, coming on October 13, especially if you’re having trouble getting to multiple events in one night. I know I’ve been in that particular boat. I’ll be there either at one or another booth, or just roaming around, likely with an armload of new purchases.

If you love books, can’t keep up and/or aren’t located in the Twin Cities, you can stay in touch with all things literary at Mill City Bibliophile, newly relaunched by Patrick Nathan. Check it out.

Make a Date for a Breakdown

It’s now just two months from the release of the second Arvo Thorson mystery, Broken Down. You may preorder print versions at  AmazonBarnes and Noble, or your favorite Indie bookstoreeBooks will also be available when the book is released.

Events will be held in late September at the Galleria (Edina) and Roseville (Har Mar) Barnes and Noble stores. More events are coming. Check my events page for details or watch for updates closer to the release date. I hope to see you at my events! Can’t wait to hear what you think of the book – below you can find what the pros think of Broken Down.

Broken Down (North Star Press, September 2012)

In Broken Down, the death of a swing bridge operator is clearly no accident and a troubled 15-year-old boy and the aging bridge are both under suspicion for murder.

Detective Arvo Thorson is having a breakdown of his own: a drinking binge makes him all too vulnerable to his ex-wife’s treacherous charms, and may put the cork in his romance with social worker Christine Ivory. Meanwhile Christine is burnt out from too many years working with Mendota County’s youngest crime victims and she’s ready for a change, even if that means leaving Mendota County, and Arvo, for good.

Book includes discussion group guide.

“Koefod fulfills the promise of her debut novel Washed Up with this fast, fresh and smart follow-up. Broken Down is the next step in what promises to be to be a first-rate series.

– David Housewright
Edgar Award-winning author of Curse of the Jade Lily

“In Broken Down, Susan Koefod delivers a splendid sequel to Arvo Thorson’s adventures in life and law. This book oozes with originality regarding murder, plot and character.”

– Julie Kramer, best-selling author of Riley Spartz thrillers, including Minnesota Book Award winner Stalking Susan

“Koefod’s Broken Down is filled with vivid detail, complex relationships, and a remarkable insight into the human psyche.”

– Jessie Chandler, author of Bingo Barge Murder, a Shay O’Hanlon caper

Print and ebooks available at AmazonBarnes and Noble, or your favorite Indie bookstore.
